Here at KC Weddings 2 Go, one of our specialties is elopement services. So, in today’s blog, we’ll discuss eloping how to make your wedding feel special, even if it’s just you and your partner.

When it comes to eloping, there can be something exciting about forgetting a guest list and budget and jetting off somewhere special to say your “I DO’s”. Although an exciting location typically goes hand in hand with the idea of eloping, remember that you can elope right in your own city. Those thinking of eloping often daydream of no worries, and simplicity, focusing purely on the one you love. But, there are a few things that need a little thought, when it comes to eloping.

Whether you are having a traditional wedding or you’ve decided to elope, there are the usual decisions that need to be made, such as location, wardrobe, ceremony decisions, etc. Below we aim to address a few points that pertain to eloping only.

Make sure you’re eloping for the right reasons

You need to make sure that if you are going to marry without your family and friends by your side, that you are doing so for the right reasons. Many reasons for eloping include saving money, avoiding family drama, and wanting to keep things more intimate are completely valid reasons for deciding to elope. But just make sure you sit down, really talk it through and make sure it’s what you and your partner both want.

Once you’ve made your decision, do not feel bad about it!

The decision of eloping can come with a feeling of guilt. Especially once family and friends know you’ve made the decision. Just remember, that your wedding is your day, and you don’t need to justify your decision.

Have a reveal

There are many ways to go about a reveal. You could send out cards to your loved ones letting them know that you’re eloping and that you’ll have a celebration on your return. It’s a fun reason to celebrate and have a party. Or you could throw a party upon your return and surprise your friends and family. With this second option, it’s important to remember that the shock factor doesn’t always go as you hope. So perhaps, let your closest people know the news.

Know the laws

Whether you are planning on eloping near your home city, or across the world, it is important to make sure you read up on the legalities. For example, for a legal wedding in Mexico, you and your partner need to have blood work, as well as a chest x-ray completed before you can legally be wed. So make sure you take the steps beforehand so you’re not surprised and have an invalid marriage.

The last thing we wanted to mention is the topic of gifts:

Do NOT expect gifts

Some family and friends may be kind enough to send something, and that is wonderful. But with eloping, gifts should not be expected. Make sure if you do receive a gift, that you send a nice thank you card. Shutterfly is a great place to order thank-you cards (or reveal cards as we mentioned above).

We hope that this post helps you with your planning, and if you are considering or planning on getting married (eloping) in the Kansas City area, please get in touch!
