So, you’re engaged, exciting! But now what? If you’re a first-time wedding planner, the list of to-do’s can be overwhelming, and making sure you’re not forgetting important aspects can be scary. Often, couples focus too much on certain aspects of the wedding and make mistakes along the way. Today’s blog post will discuss the top wedding planning mistakes to try to avoid while you’re planning your wedding.
Your Wedding Budget
When planning your wedding, one of the first steps is to create a budget for your big day. And it seems that no matter what we do, that budget seems to rise and rise. Although the discussion of money is not a fun topic to have to discuss when planning a dream day, it is so essential! If you begin your planning knowing exactly what you are able to afford, you will be more on top of your decision making throughout the planning process. If you go into planning, and booking vendors before you’ve set your budget, you will be shocked by how fast your money is going. And let’s be honest, you want to have your perfect day and not come out of it owing a ton of money!
Messing up the Legalities
As we’ve mentioned in past posts, an important step in wedding planning is a marriage license. Depending on where you are getting married, the legalities vary. So, make sure you do research into what is needed.
Getting too Attached to Ideas
One issue many couples have is being stuck on certain aspects of what they envisioned for their wedding. Whether it be a venue, a flower type, etc. It’s important to remember that often compromises will need to be made.
Letting family make too many decisions
We all have or know someone who has a member of the family who wants to put their input into your planning and really wants to make your decisions for you. You need to remember that this wedding is a special day for you, and you want it to be to what you imagined. Your day is YOUR day.
Not Asking Questions
We talked about this in last week’s blog. But it’s important that during your wedding planning, you are making sure to ask questions. Don’t be afraid if you don’t understand something in a contract or a quote. You don’t want to be surprised by extra service charging, etc. Vendors are used to being asked lots of questions.
We hope this list is helpful and gives your peace of mind when you’re planning your wedding.
